“And it is true that in a letter sent to me by my friend the great rabbi our master R. Shneur Zalman Pinsker, the Av Beit Din of Kherson, may he live, he attested that the leading rabbis perform marriage ceremonies throughout the month of Elul until the beginning of the Days of Selichot.”

“Once, when I was in the city of Kreutzburg, I asked the rabbi, the Gaon R. Zalman Pinsker, of blessed and holy memory — who afterward was rabbi in the city of Kherson — about a man suspected in my eyes, whether I could eat at his house at a circumcision, and he answered me: I studied the laws of the lung in Yoreh De'ah as they pertain to animals but not to people.”
