In 1945 he moved with his family to Riga. He worked as a watchmaker in the disabled workers’ cooperatives: “Raznoprom” (1945–47) and “Bytovik” (1947–59), and in 1959–62 at the household services department of the RMZ Darbs. In 1959 he traveled to Legnica (Poland).
