Zilber Faivish Leibovich (1905)

Zilber (Silber) Faivish (Feiwisch) Leibovich (28 November 1905, Kraslava, Latvia – ?) — barber.

Faivish Zilber completed primary school in Karsava and until 1928 worked as a men’s hairdresser in private barbershops. In 1928 opened his own barbershop in Karsava, where he worked until 1941.

In 1941, Zilber and his family were imprisoned in the Karsava ghetto, later transferred to the Riga ghetto. In September 1944, he was deported to the Stutthof concentration camp, and a month later transferred to the Magdeburg labor camps. In 1945, he was moved to Sachsenhausen concentration camp, from which he was liberated on 3 May 1945.

After liberation, he settled in Žagarė, Lithuania, where he married Grunya Kanter (b. 1918). In 1946, he and his wife returned to Riga, where he worked as a men’s hairdresser in the artel “Nākotne” (later renamed Laimdota).

In 1972, Z., together with his wife and son Leiba Zilber (b. 1948), emigrated to Israel.

His first wife, Riva (Nevler) Zilber (1905–1940), and their children Lyuba (1929–1940) and Hirsh (1937–1940) perished in Riga during the German occupation. During the Holocaust, his mother, brothers, and sisters also perished in the Riga and Karsava ghettos.
