R. Shalom Eliyahu Dov son of R. Michal Yaakov Zeligman

Gostiņi / Dankere / Glazmanka

His father served as rabbi of Griva, a descendant of R. Ze'ev Wolf Altschuler, rabbi of Lucin.

Born in the month of Elul 5599 (1839).

He was appointed rabbi here in the year 5635 and served for 41 years (1875–1916).1)

During the years of the First World War he wandered to the town of Varklany and passed away there on Rosh Chodesh Nisan 5677 (24 March 1917).

His letter to the Gaon Rabbi Meir Simcha HaKohen of Dvinsk, author of Or Samei'ach, was printed in the collection Zikaron Nit'ei Shmuel, p. 81.

In the manuscript scroll of responsa and homilies of R. Nachman Yehuda Eidel Margolies, rabbi of Jakobstadt, held at the Moscow Library (after p. 392)), there appears a responsum to him dated “Wednesday, Tammuz, year 5648.”

Ohalei Shem, p. 39. Di Geshikhte, p. 95, in a footnote at the margin. Megilat Yochasin – Yachas Avot, letter 32.

Latvia and Rabbis

1)
He is the one mentioned in the Aderet's list (also printed in Echad BaDoro, p. 202): “He also told me of R. Zelig Dov Margolies, may he live, the Av Beit Din of Dankre” – making an error in his name (though indeed on his mother's side he is a grandson of the Margolies family, rabbis of the town of Telshe, as noted in Ohalei Shem).
2)
And further below there are two more responsa addressed to him (calling him erroneously “Shalom Arye Dov”).
