Zarin (née Sher) Polina Moiseevna (21.09.1926, Kharkov) – typist.

Polina Zarin was the daughter of Movsha (Moses) Sher (1896, Dvinsk – 1971, Riga) and Tisya Sher (née Vilenskaya) (…, Voronezh – 1926, Kharkov). In 1941, she completed seven grades of secondary school in Kharkov. That same year, she was evacuated to the village of Kulan, Tyulkubas district.

From 1943 to 1944, she studied at a vocational school in Chimkent. In 1944, she was re-evacuated to Kharkov and entered the Kharkov Industrial Technical School. In 1945, she moved to Riga.

1946–47 – statistician at the trust Kozhobuvrezina.

1947 – worker at the Somdaris factory.

1947–48 – bookkeeper at the Riga City Committee of the Komsomol.

1948–49 – typist-stenographer at the Committee for Cultural and Educational Institutions under the Council of Ministers of the Latvian SSR.

1952–59 – typist at the Rigas Audums textile plant.

1959–63 – typist in the Department of Scientific and Technical Information and Publishing, TsPKB MA.

1963–73 – typist at the Central Design Bureau of the Chemical Industry Administration.

1973–74 – worker at the trust Sevzapmontazhavtomatika in Riga.

1974–79 – typist in the Bureau for Design Documentation of the SKB for Chemical Applications.

She married Ernest Zarins (b. 1924, Velikolukskaya oblast), from whom she divorced in 1953. Their daughter was Nina Yakovleva (née Zarins) (b. 1949, Riga).

In 1979, Polina Zarin and her daughter received permission to emigrate to Israel, by invitation of her half-sister Emma Mukhina (Sher, Mukha) (b. 1928, Kharkov) and her stepmother, Dina Budel (Bdil) (b. 1902, Dvinsk), who had raised Polina from early childhood.
