Zakharevich (Sacharewitsch) Mozus (Mosus)Berkovich (13.09.1913, Riga) – worker.

Mozus Zakharevich was born into the family of Berko Shapshelevich Zakharevich (1868, Belarus – 1931, Riga) and Mera Kusielevna Zakharevich (née Ryzhik) (1875, Lukoml, Belarus – killed by the Nazis in 1941, Riga).

He completed six grades at the Jewish “Ivrit” Gymnasium, and worked at the Ryzhik timber warehouse (1929–1940). In 1941, he was employed as a wallpaper printer’s assistant. Unable to evacuate, he was confined in the Riga Ghetto, where he performed forced labour (1941–1944). He was later deported to Lithuania (1944), and afterwards to Germany, where he was imprisoned in the concentration camps of Stutthof and Dachau (1944–1945). After liberation, he returned to Riga (1945).

He worked as a wallpaper printer at the Riga Wallpaper Factory (1946–1949), as a worker at Cardboard Factory No. 4 (1949–1953), and at the Riga Industrial Combine (1953–1966). From 1966 to 1972, he was employed as a glove cutter at the Multi-Industry Home Work Combine.

He was married to Gita Abramovna Zakharevich (née Gilenson) (b. 1921, Krāslava, Latvia). Their daughter was Aviva Mozusovna Zakharevich (b. 1958, Riga).

In 1981, Mozus Zakharevich received permission to emigrate to Israel, where his wife’s sister Zelda Abramovna Kopach (née Gilenson) (b. 1917, Krāslava) had been living since 1936.
