R. Tzvi Hirsh son of R. Avraham Yemini

Viļāni1)

Born in 5630 (1870) in the Minsk region. He studied at the yeshivas of Volozhin, Eishyshok, and the kollel in Kovna.

He was ordained for halakhic rulings by the Gaon R. Meir Simcha HaKohen of Dvinsk.

Son-in-law of R. Moshe Meshal Platzinsky, rabbi of Vishki.

He served as rabbi here from 5660 (1900)2).

He passed away in 5700 (1940).

In the journal Sharagai, vol. 4 (p. 153), it is written that the responsum in the responsa Zekher Yehoseph, section 211, is apparently addressed to him.

Ohalei Shem, p. 59. Latvia: Batei Knesset VeRabbanim, p. 227, where it states he was born in 5628 (1868) and served as rabbi here from 5662 (1902).

Latvia and Rabbis

1)
One should distinguish it from the town of Vilyan near Kovna.
2)
In Pinkas HaKehillot, p. 118, it is written that he was rabbi until the mid-1930s, but this is an error, since in Latvia: Batei Knesset VeRabbanim, p. 217, his letter to the authorities from November 1939 requesting release from the rabbinical position was printed.
