Latvia and Rabbis

1)
It should be noted that apparently there was a rabbi or rabbinic decisor here long before him, as R. Avitzinsky writes in Di Geshikhte fun di Yidn in Letland, p. 187, that in the responsa Gedulat Mordechai, sections 4–8, a matter concerning the ritual slaughterer of Subitz is discussed, where the local rabbinic decisor wished to forbid him — and the author of the responsa Gedulat Mordechai, R. Mordechai Rabiner, passed away in 5590.
