His father was the rabbi of Ponedel (Pandel), Lithuania, among the Hasidim of the Middle Rebbe and of the Tzemach Tzedek of Lubavitch.
He served as rabbi here in the years 5616–5623 (1856–1863), and he too worked for the spread of Hasidism in the community. He is remembered fondly among the town's Jews. He later served as rabbi in Sirotino, district of Vitebsk.
He is signed as official rabbi in the registration books of the communities of Ilukste, Griva, and Subat1) from the month of Tevet 5617 until Tevet 5620 (beginning of 1857 – end of 1859), and from the month of Shevat 5621 (all of 1861).
