Vulfovich (Wulfowitsch) Mendel Shlemovich Vulfovich (6.09.1911, Riga) - worker.

Mendel Vulfovich was born in a family of a mirror factory worker Shlema Benjaminovich Vulfovich (1886-1919, Riga) and dressmaker Ester Gilevna Vulfovich (1890, Jaunjelgava - in 1941 killed by fascists in ghetto, Riga). he graduated from elementary school (1925), worked in a leather goods workshop (1926-1930), was a member of the leatherworkers' trade union, participated in the movement of anti-fascist groups, was a political prisoner in Riga's fixed-term, Central and Cēsis prisons. Served in the Latvian army (1935-1936, Daugavpils), worked at the leather goods factory ‘A. Rosenthal’ (1936-1940, Riga).

Mendel Vulfovich was a commissioner at the nationalisation of enterprises (1940), worked at the factory ‘Somdaris’ (1941). Due to illness he could not go to the front or evacuate. When the Nazi occupied Latvia he worked in peat mining (1941, Sloka). He participated in the work of the Riga Ghetto anti-fascist organisation, lived there illegally, in a specially equipped bunker (1942-1944). During the occupation, the Nazis killed 26 members of his family, including his wife and 2-year-old son. Immediately after the liberation of Riga from the Nazi, he worked as director, head of OTK, foreman of the handbag shop of the ‘Somdaris’ factory (1944-1949), foreman of the training of disabled people in the Promcooperation (1949-1960), foreman of the workshop of the ‘Adu haberdashery’ artel, later the leather haberdashery factory (1960-1971).

No information about his wife, who died in the Riga ghetto.

In his marriage to Dveira Davydovna Vulfovich (Levina) (1924) daughters Lamina (Vulfovich) Ester Mendelevna (1949) and Dina Mendelevna Vulfovich (1956) were born.

In 1973 he received permission to emigrate to Israel, where his own sister Elena Shlemovna Kvin (Vulfovich) (1917) had lived since 1967.
