After demobilization he worked as a piano teacher and concertmaster at the Daugavpils Music College (1966—1968), and completed the Latvian State Conservatory by correspondence (1967). Moving to Riga, he was a solo instrumentalist at the Latvian State Philharmonic (1968—1970), and worked as concertmaster at the operetta theater (1970—1973).
