After the birth of her younger sister, Nessa Tilitskaya (1921, Riga), her mother died. Her father soon remarried, and she was raised by her maternal aunt, Goda Sokolovich (née Letkina) (1903, Riga).

In 1935, she completed eight years of secondary schooling. From 1936 to 1940, she was engaged in various casual jobs in Riga. In 1940–1941, she served as head of the advertising department of the Riga Office of Film Distribution.

In 1941, as a former German subject, she was interned and sent to Camp No. 99 in Novosibirsk; she was later transferred to Karaganda.

In 1949, she returned to Riga, where she worked as a packer at Pharmacy No. 19 (State Pharmacy Administration) until 1950.

Subsequently:

• 1960–1963 — kiosk operator at Soyuzpechat

• 1963–1966 — sales assistant in Riga First Municipal Trade Organization

• From 1966 — cashier at the enterprise “Tekstilshveyobuvtorg”
