Sobolevich (Sobolewitsch) Avraham (1867, Kalvarija) — philanthropist, public figure, industrialist.

Avraham Sobolevich received a religious upbringing. He studied the Talmud, as well as science and languages. Already in his youth, he began to play an important role in industry, while at the same time engaging in public activity.

After the Revolution, he left Russia and settled in England, later moving to Latvia. There, he developed active public and philanthropic work, supporting numerous social, cultural, and charitable organisations and initiatives.

During a crisis at the hospital “Linat Tzedek,” when everything had been thrown out into the street, he built, at his own expense, a special building for the institution.

He was an active Zionist figure and for many years served as chairman of “Keren Kayemet” in Latvia. For his merits in the development of industry in Latvia, he was awarded the Order of the Three Stars.
