Smargon (née Volkovich) Maya (Maja) Borisovna (30 April 1964, Daugavpils) — educator.

No information about Maya’s mother is preserved in the documents. Her father was Boris Zalmanovich Volkovich (1936, Dvinsk [now Daugavpils]).

Maya Smargon graduated from Daugavpils Secondary School No. 11 in 1981, and from Daugavpils Pedagogical Institute in 1985. From 1985 to 1987, she was supported by her husband, and from 1987 to 1990 worked as a proofreader at the Daugavpils printing house.

She married Alexander Yakovlevich Smargon (1962, Daugavpils). Their children are twin sons, Mark Alexandrovich Smargon (1985, Daugavpils) and Ilya Alexandrovich Smargon (1985, Daugavpils).

In 1990, Maya Smargon received permission to emigrate to Israel, where her husband’s relatives resided: since 1979, his sister Zelda Yakovlevna Halperina (née Smargon) (1956, Daugavpils), and since 1971, his uncle (his father’s brother), Israel Nisonovich Smargon (1925, Dvinsk).
