Slavina (Slawina) Khaya-Sara (Chaja-Sara) (née Lapp / Karpina) (2 July 1919, Riga) - saleswoman. Khaya-Sara Slavina was the daughter of Rubin Lapp (1881, Rezekne – 1941(?), Liepaja) and Riva Lapp (1882, Riga). In 1924, she moved with her parents to Liepaja. She completed four grades of primary school in 1931 and worked as a saleswoman in Liepaja’s stores from 1932 to 1934. In 1934, she relocated to Riga, where she continued to work as a saleswoman until 1941.
During World War II, Khaya-Sara was evacuated to Vyatskiye Polyany, Kirov Oblast, where she worked at a sawmill in the village of Sosnovka until 1945. She then returned to Latvia, focusing on household work. Her first husband, Yakov Karpin (1914, Riga – 1941, Kirov Oblast), died during evacuation. In her second marriage to Ber Slavin (1917, Riga), she had a son, Simon Slavin (1951, Riga).
Her father perished during the Holocaust. Her sister and brother, Zelda Veksler (née Lapp / Karpina) (1921, Riga) and Aba Lapp (1924, Riga), lived in Riga in the 1960s. Another brother, Eheskel Lapp (1915, Riga), left Latvia in 1933 seeking employment and later became the director of a school for the blind in Israel in the 1960s. In 1965, Khaya-Sara received permission to emigrate to Israel at the invitation of her brother.
