Shmuelovich Iosif Kopelovich (22.01.1908, Riga) – musician. He was born into the family of trade worker Shmuelovich Kopel-Aizik Abramovich (died 1908, Riga) and artificial-flower maker Shmuelovich Feyga Iosifovna (died 1934, Riga). In 1914 he moved with his mother to Revel (today Tallinn), where he studied at a Russian gymnasium (1916–1920). Returning to Riga, he studied at A. Korti's gymnasium while also taking private music lessons. He graduated from Payne's music school (1926) and worked as a musician at various clubs. He served in the Latvian Army (1929–1930), then went to Germany, where he studied at a technical college in Mittweida (1930–1932), but due to the persecution of Jews returned to Riga, where he worked in the orchestras of various restaurants until 1941.
He was evacuated to Yaroslavl Region, volunteered for the Latvian 201st Division, where he served as a musician in the orchestra (1941–1943).
He was demobilized and sent to the Latvian State Ensemble in Ivanovo. In 1944 he was arrested, and in 1945 he was convicted by the Special Council under Article 58-10, Part 2 of the RSFSR Criminal Code and sentenced to five years' imprisonment. He served his sentence in Yaroslavl Region (1944–1949). In 1963 the case was dropped for lack of proof of guilt.
On returning to Riga, until 1968 he worked as a musician in various restaurants.

In his marriage to Shmuelovich (née Israelskaya) Rakhil Naumovna (1906, Riga – killed by the Nazis in the Riga ghetto in 1941), son Shmuelovich Kopel-Aizik Iosifovich (b. 1927, Riga) was born.

In his marriage to Vainshtein Eta Aronovna (b. 1918, Riga), sons Shmuelovich Aron Iosifovich (b. 1955, Riga) and Shmuelovich Felix Iosifovich (b. 1958, Riga) were born.

In 1968 he received permission to emigrate to Israel, where his second wife's sister, Kimkhi (née Vainshtein) Tova Aronovna (b. 1913, Ludza, Latvia), had been living since 1929.
