Sandler Grigory Mikhailovich (1931, Vitebsk) — lawyer.
Grigory Sandler was born into the family of Mikhail Sandler (1910), a senior mechanic at the “Krasny Oktyabr” factory, and Revekka Sandler (1912), a housewife.
In 1941, he completed the 4th grade of primary school in Vitebsk. He was evacuated to Chkalov. In 1946, his family moved to Riga. In 1953, he graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Latvian State University. Due to insufficient knowledge of the Latvian language, he was left without official job placement.
In 1954, he was accepted as a trainee in the Collegium of Advocates of the Latvian SSR, and in September 1954 he was appointed as an advocate at the Riga 4th Legal Consultation Office. In 1955, he was appointed head of the legal consultation office in Viļaka, where he worked until 1958.
Due to reports of frequent drinking in the company of friends, he was removed from his position with a transfer to another district. However, he did not receive a new appointment: in July 1958, he was expelled from the Collegium of Advocates following his detention on suspicion of group rape. In September 1958, the case was dismissed.
In the 1960s, he worked at the Timber Processing Combine (DOK) of the Riga City Executive Committee and at Glavavtodorosnab. In 1960 and 1961, he submitted applications for reinstatement in the Collegium of Advocates, but these were rejected.
A member of the Komsomol (VLKSM) since 1947, and from 1948 a member of the trade union of higher education employees.
