Raiza (Reisa) Roza (Rosa) (1893, Białystok, Grodno Province — 1963, Los Angeles) — singer (dramatic soprano).
Roza Raiza received her education at the Naples Conservatory San Pietro a Majella, and subsequently studied with B. Marchisio. In 1913 she made her debut in Paris and Milan; in 1914 she sang at the Riga Opera Theatre “Costanzi”; in 1915 — at the Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires). In the same year she was engaged by the Chicago Opera. She toured throughout Europe and the United States.
In 1924 she participated in the premiere of A. Boito’s opera Nerone at La Scala (role of Asteria). In 1926 she performed there the role of Turandot in the premiere of the eponymous opera by G. Puccini. Raiza took part in the festivals at the Arena di Verona and the Florentine Musical Festival.
In 1937, together with her husband, the Italian baritone Giacomo Rimini, she opened an opera studio in Chicago. Raiza was the prototype for the heroine of Sholem Aleichem’s novel The Wandering Stars.
