Nurok (Nurock) Aron-Ber (22.10. 1875, Tukums – ?) — rabbi and activist of the Mizrachi party in Latvia; elder brother of M. Nurok.
Aron-Ber Nurok was born in Tukums (Tukkum) and studied under his grandfather, Rabbi L. Lichtenstein. He subsequently attended the rabbinical seminary in Telšiai (Lithuania). Between 1897 and 1901, the future rabbi studied at the University of Berlin and at a yeshiva (a religious institution for the training of rabbis). He was ordained in Berlin. According to some sources, he also studied archaeology at St Petersburg University (M. Bobe). In 1901 he graduated Strasbourg University with a degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
From 1906 onwards, he served as a rabbi and later as Chief Rabbi of Liepāja, heading the city’s Jewish community for approximately thirty years. Nurok was also active in politics: he was a deputy to the Constituent Assembly and to the 3rd Saeima of Latvia.
