Moskovsky (Moskowsky) Nakhman (Nachman) (28 August 1871, Rezekne) — pharmacist, public and political figure.
From a young age Nakhman Moskovsky was actively involved in public life, especially in Zionist activity. In Saint Petersburg he founded a circle named after Professor Hermann Schapira. Later he served as chairman of the democratically elected Jewish community in Pskov. He was one of the founders of a committee to aid refugees from the Pale of Settlement.
From 1918 he lived in Riga, where he founded the first Yiddish newspaper in independent Latvia, “Yidishe Folks Shtimme” (“The Jewish People’s Voice”). He also took an active part in establishing other Yiddish newspapers, including “Der Veg,” “Unzer Veg,” and “Dos Folk.”
He was vice-chairman of the Society for Jewish Culture and Science, and from the day of its establishment a representative of the Democrats in the Riga Jewish Community. He was a member of the Central Committee of Tse’irei Zion, later a member of the Central Committee of the Latvian Revisionist Zionist Society. After a split in the movement, he organized the Yudenstadt Party and was delegated by it to the 18th Zionist Congress.
