Mintz (Minz) Iosif Movshevich (13 March 1911, Riga) — factory worker.
Iosif Mintz was born into the family of Movsha-Leib Izrailovich Mintz (no further data; he left the family in 1912) and Gena-Reiza Itzikovna Mintz (1888 – 1941, murdered by the Nazis in the Riga Ghetto). He completed six grades of a Jewish elementary school in 1926.
From 1926 to 1930, he was an apprentice at the “Eska” hosiery factory, and from 1930 to 1941 worked as a knitter at the “Habek” hosiery factory. During World War II, he served on the Leningrad Front (1941–1942), was wounded, and evacuated first to the Chuvash ASSR and later to Yaroslavl (1942–1944).
After returning to Riga, he worked as deputy head of the commercial department of a department store (1944–1946). He was later convicted and served a prison sentence in Pechory (1947–1952). After his release, he worked as an assistant foreman at the “Kosmos” factory (1952–1960), assistant foreman at the “Avrora” factory (1960–1970), and as a knitter at the Ogre Knitwear Combine (1970–1972).
In marriage with Elka Mintz (née Sternin) (1910, Vitebsk), three children were born: Lev Iosifovich Mintz (1941, Riga), Rosa Iosifovna Mintz (1945–1945, Riga), and Movsha Yazepovich Mintz (1946, Riga).
In 1975, Iosif Mintz received permission to emigrate to Israel, where his son Lev Iosifovich Mintz (1941) had been living since 1971.
