Mesengiser (Messengieser) Boris Avseyevich
(born 1 July 1910, Daugavpils) — worker.
Boris Mesengiser was the son of Avsey Gershevich Mesengiser (1875–1920, Daugavpils) and Nechama Mendelevna Mesengiser (née Shpur) (born 1869, Krāslava — murdered 1941, Riga). He completed six years of schooling in Daugavpils in 1924. He worked as an upholsterer for a private employer (1924–1932, Riga, “Alper”), served in the Latvian Army (1932–1933, Vidzeme Artillery Regiment), and returned to work as an upholsterer in Riga (1934–1940, “Alper”), later at the “Takhtamat” artel (1940–1941).
During 1941–1944 he was imprisoned in the Riga Ghetto and from 1944 to 1945 in the Stutthof concentration camp in Germany. After liberation he returned to Riga, working as head of the workshop at RYBKOOP (1945–1949), and as an upholsterer at the “Restavrator” artel (1949–1951), Gorpromtorg No. 2 (1951–1952), the “Rosiba” furniture artel (1952–1954), the “Cenṭiba” furniture company (1955–1957), the Riga City Woodworking Combine (1957–1959), and the “Rīgas Ekspress” combine (1959–1966).
Boris Mesengiser was married first to Bluma Aronovna Mesengiser (née Gelbart) (1913–1941, murdered in the Riga Ghetto), with whom he had two sons: Mordukhai Borisovich Mesengiser (1935–1941) and Motel Borisovich Mesengiser (1937–1941), both of whom were killed in the Riga Ghetto. His second marriage was to Rase Khaimovna Mesengiser (née Gelbart) (born 1918, Riga), and they had no children.
In 1966 he received permission to emigrate to Israel, where his cousin, Yehezkiyel Zelikovich Slivkin (born 1908, Riga), had been living since 1934.
