R. Yosef Shlomo son of R. Menachem Mendel

Aizpute / Hasenpoth

He was accepted as rabbi on 9 Sivan 5539 (May 1779). He served in the town's rabbinate for many years until his passing, and was laid to rest there.

Father-in-law of R. Baruch Don Yechiya, rabbi of Disna.1)

Latvia and Rabbis

1)
Some say that R. Baruch received from his father-in-law R. Yosef Shlomo the family name Don Yechiya (Bikurei Yehuda, Lucin 5690, p. 36 ff.), but in Toldot Yeshivat HaYehudim BeCourland, second edition with additions and corrections, this is rejected. In Toldot Anshei Shem (Warsaw 5635), p. 42, no. 22, and in Anshei Shem, part 1 (Warsaw 5652), p. 26, no. 28, it is written about this R. Baruch that he was “Av Beit Din of Disna, son of R. Moshe, Av Beit Din of Hasenpoth.” But this is an error; as stated above, his father-in-law R. Yosef Shlomo was the rabbi of the town, not his father, and also his father's name was R. Yeshayahu, not R. Moshe – so stated in Bikurei Yehuda there.
