R. Tzvi Hirsh son of R. Eliezer Lipman Lichtenstein

Tukums / Tukum

Son of a rabbi of the place.

Son-in-law of R. Eliezer Simcha Rabinowitz, rabbi in Lithuania in the cities of Rogova, Shadova, Suvalki, Łomża, and Kalvarija.

He was elected rabbi to fill his father's place after his passing in 5656.

He was expelled with his community to Russia during the First World War.

He passed away in Kremenchug on 26 Tishrei 5680 (20 October 1919).

Author of the book Higayon Libi (his homilies, Riga 5671).

In Igrot Kodesh of the Lubavitcher Rebbe (Maharshab)1) a letter to him was printed:

With God's help, Wednesday, 8 Elul 5672, \
Naut Nasha, Zaalshiye.

May he be inscribed and sealed immediately for a good life and peace — the honorable rabbi, the gaon renowned for praise in his Torah and fear of God, a scion of the mighty and the noble, a stronghold and fortress, Pillar of Right, the Strong Hammer, the glory of his honorable name, our teacher the Rabbi — R. Tzvi Lichtenstein, Av Beit Din of the holy congregation of Tukums, may his light shine and radiate forever.

After inquiring after his health. I was honored by his letter, as well as his precious book Higayon Libi with which he honored me. For now I have had the time to peruse it somewhat, and I see that it contains that which arouses the human heart toward our Father in Heaven. May God grant his honor to be among those who bring merit to the multitudes.

Approbations from him: Sha'ar Shimon (Vilna 5662), Hadarat Tzvi (Piotrków 5674).
