R. Reuven Shimon son of R. Yosef HaLevi Levin

Krustpils / Kreutzburg

Born in approximately 5637 (1877) in Dvinsk.

He served as rabbi in Lithuania, and in approximately 5686 (1926) was accepted here as rabbi.

He passed away in Riga on 7 Adar 5693 (5 March 1933) and was brought here to rest.1)

At his funeral the community committed to waiting four years until one of his daughters would marry a rabbi approved by the Gaon of Rogatchov, who would then be accepted as rabbi.

Latvia and Rabbis

1)
In Latvia: Batei Knesset VeRabbanim, p. 233, it states he was born in 5631 (1871) and served as rabbi here from 1931 (5691). But from newspaper reports in Primorgen after his passing, it is written that he passed away at age 56 and served here in the rabbinate for 7 years. Perhaps he was only officially approved as rabbi by the authorities in 1931.
