Kustanovich (Kustanowitsch) Dora (Dveira) Isaakovna (Itskhak-Vulfovna) Kustanovich
(1921, Slutsk) — physician.
Dora Kustanovich was born into the family of a cantor and owner of a haberdashery shop. In the early 20th century, most of Kustanovich’s family emigrated to the United States; some (for example, Rabbi Moshe Feinstein and his family) lived in Riga before leaving. The children of those who remained in the USSR had to leave Belarus and conceal their origins in order to be able to study at universities.
Kustanovich’s parents and sisters were killed in the Slutsk ghetto in February 1944. She studied at the Leningrad and Kharkov Medical Institutes and worked as a senior nurse in a frontline hospital during World War II.
In 1945, she moved to Riga with her husband, dermatologist and venereologist Mendel Rabinovich, and worked at the 2nd City Polyclinic. From 1950 she served as chair of the medical draft commission of Stalin District in Riga, from 1956 as a therapist, and from 1959 to 1992 as head of the 1st City Hospital.
In 1992, Dora Kustanovich emigrated to Israel.
