Koblenz Nissan Naftalyevich
(b. 1882, Kreuzberg, Germany – d. 1 May 1921, Palestine) — participant in the construction of the Hebrew University, guard.
Nissan Koblenz was born into the family of a wealthy timber merchant. After Latvia gained independence, Koblenz moved to Riga, where he joined the HeHalutz movement and a group of entrepreneurs who, in 1920, emigrated to Palestine. There he worked on Mount Scopus, helping to prepare the site for the construction of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Later he worked as an agricultural labourer in Rishon LeZion.
In 1921, during the disturbances in the region, Nissan Koblenz, as a member of the Haganah, was sent to defend the Tel Aviv–Jaffa border, guarding the homes of settlers. He was shot dead on duty by an Arab policeman.
He was buried in a communal grave in the Old Tel Aviv Cemetery.
