Klavansky Boris Iosifovich
(1908, Riga — 1980, Riga) — lawyer, lecturer, and journalist for the newspaper Rīgas Balss (The Voice of Riga).
Boris Klavansky studied at the Faculty of Law of the University of Latvia, which he completed after the Second World War. In the 1930s, he was an active member of the Jewish student corporation Hasmonea, and in 1936–37 served as one of its leaders. During his student years, he taught Latvian and Latin.
He fought in the Latvian Division during the Second World War and was wounded. After the war, he worked as a lawyer at the Ministry of the Food Industry. From the early 1960s, he also lectured in professional development courses for specialists, and from 1968 devoted himself fully to teaching, while also joining the staff of Rīgas Balss. There he regularly answered hundreds of readers’ questions on labour law each month.
In the 1960s–70s, he was among the most popular public experts on labour legislation in Latvia. He frequently published articles in periodicals in both Russian and Latvian.
In January 1980, he published the book A Guide to the Regulations on Comradely Courts.
