Asya graduated from a secondary school in Kazan in 1956 and then moved to Riga to join her mother. In Riga she worked as a trainee yarn winder at the “Rīgas Audums” combine (1956), a knitter at the “Promprodukt” artel (1956–1958), a factory worker at the “Fantāzija” factory (1958–1959), a knitter at the “Rīgas Adītājs” factory (1959–1961), a worker at the Riga Instrument-Making Factory (1961–1972), and later as an engineer in the department of material and technical supply (1972–1973).

In marriage to Aizik Shmulovich Khavenson (1928, Liepāja), she had no children.

In 1973 Asya Khavenson received permission to emigrate to Israel, where since 1971 her brother Aron Matveevich Singer (1940, Kazan) and sister Sima Matveevna Livshits (née Singer) (1933, Kazan) had been living.
