Khaikevich (Haikewitsch) Zalman (Salman) (15 December 1863, Daugavpils, then Dvinsk) — public figure and philanthropist.

Zalman Khaikevich was a chief contractor for railways in the Russian Empire, an honorary citizen, and recipient of numerous orders and decorations. From 1902 onward he was active in public life in Riga.

Khaikevich was one of the initiators, builders, and elders of the Peitav Synagogue. He was also among the founders and served as deputy chairman of the council of the First Riga Savings Bank for small manufacturers and craftsmen.

He was a member of the council of “Gemilut Hesed,” established by Russian Jews, and deputy chairman of the society of Jewish homeowners. He also became one of the principal assistants to the chairman of the newly established “Homeowners’ Bank.”

In 1933 he was re-elected to the board of the Choral Synagogue, where he became known as an energetic and uncompromising communal leader. He was a member of the committee responsible for distributing firewood and matzah and was regarded as an indispensable supporter of numerous charitable institutions.
