Kaplun (Khirshovich) Tsviya-Karmella (29.07.1937, Tartu, Estonia) — biologist. Born into the family of Khirshovich Iossel (Iosel, Iosif-Iosel) (1901, Tartu — 1953, Tartu) and Khirshovich (Mandelkorn) Mere-Khane (Meri-Khana) (1899, Jelgava). In 1957, completed 11 grades of secondary school in Tartu. Until 1959, studied at the veterinary faculty of the Estonian Agricultural Academy. From 1960 to 1962, studied at the dentistry faculty of Tartu State University. Until 1965, worked as a bookkeeper at state enterprises in Tartu. In 1965, K. moved to Riga. In 1971, K. graduated from the biology faculty of the University of Latvia. Changing several workplaces, from 1970 to 1977, K. worked as a chemistry and biology teacher at Riga Secondary School No. 61.

Her marriage to Kaplun Yury (1937, Pushkino, Leningrad Oblast) produced children Kaplun Leonid (1965, Riga) and Kaplun Lina (1972, Riga).
