Hertzmark (Gertsmark) (née Jakobson) Bella Isaakovna (12 February 1916, Moscow) — hairdresser, technician.

Bella Hertzmark was the daughter of Isaak Jakobson (1880, Jaunjelgava – 1933, Riga) and Anna Jakobson (née Matisson) (1888, Jaunjelgava – 1941, Riga). In 1920, she moved to Riga with her parents after the family had been evacuated to Russia during the First World War. From 1933 to 1934, she worked as an apprentice-clerk at the “Kosmos” factory in Riga. From 1934 to 1935, she worked in the warehouse of the “Reka” factory. In 1935, she qualified as a hairdresser and worked from home until 1940. Between 1940 and 1941, she was a cashier at the Riga Hairdressing Trust.

In 1941, Bella Hertzmark was evacuated to the Chuvash ASSR. Until 1943, she worked at the Kharkiv Electromechanical Plant, which at that time was located in Cheboksary. Between 1943 and 1944, she was a general worker at military unit No. 28100, with postings in Vyshny Volochyok, Rybinsk, and Zhytomyr. From 1944 to 1945, she worked as a hospital orderly and server at Evacuation Hospital No. 5452 in Zhytomyr. She returned to Riga in 1945, and remained a homemaker until 1952. From 1952 to 1953 she worked as a labourer; from 1955 to 1958 as an assembler; and until 1971, as a technician and engineer at the Electra artel (later reorganised as the Riga Plant of Electrical Installation Products).

From 1971 to 1977, she was retired. In 1977–78, she worked as a cloakroom attendant at Riga’s 3rd Unified Hospital. Married to Lev Hertzmark (1901, Riga – 1970, Riga), with whom she had two sons: Isaak Hertzmark (b. 1939, Riga) and Alexander Hertzmark (b. 1946, Riga). Her mother, sister Dina Katz (née Jakobson) (1913, Riga – c.1941, Riga), and brother Yuliy Jakobson (1925, Riga – c.1941, Riga) perished in the Holocaust. Her brother Joseph Jakobson (b. 1909, Riga) emigrated to Palestine in the 1930s. She had been petitioning to emigrate to Israel since 1963 and was granted permission in 1980.
