Hertzberg (Gertsberg) (née Kagan) Lidiya Semyonovna (21 September 1900, Aizpute) — shop assistant.

Lidiya Hertzberg was the daughter of Semyon (Sheime) Kagan (b. c.1870, Lithuania – 1919, Chkalovsk) and Zhenya Kagan (1872, Aizpute – 1938, Moscow). In 1912, she moved with her parents to Saint Petersburg, where she completed five grades at a commercial school. In 1917, she relocated to Moscow. Following her marriage in 1921, she moved to Talsi. Until 1941, she was a housewife. In 1941, she was evacuated to the Uzbek SSR. Until 1944, she worked at Factory No. 3 in Namangan. Between 1944 and 1945, she served as a commandant at Vocational School No. 50 in Tashkent and Riga. From 1945 to 1949, she worked as a street vendor, buffet worker, and shop assistant at the Latvian branch of Osobgastrom. From 1949 to 1952, she was a sales assistant at shops belonging to Riga’s 2nd City Food Trade Administration. Between 1952 and 1959, she worked at the Dzirkstele disabled persons’ artel. From 1959, she was retired on an old-age pension.

Married to Nahman Hertzberg (1896, Talsi – 1942), with whom she had three children: Josefa Birnbaum (née Hertzberg) (b. 1922, Talsi), Wolf Hertzberg (1924, Talsi – 1941, Riga), and Abram Hertzberg (b. 1928, Talsi). Her husband died a heroic death in combat near Staraya Russa. She later remarried Ber Levinson (1892, Talsi – 1967, Riga).

Her sister, Sara Rapoport (née Kagan) (b. 1897, Aizpute), was living in Riga in the 1960s. Another sister, Rima Vouk (née Kagan) (b. 1890, Aizpute), lived in Italy in the 1960s. A third sister, Zara Benyaminovich (née Kagan) (b. 1895, Aizpute), emigrated to Israel in the 1930s. In 1973, Lidiya received permission to emigrate to Israel at the invitation of her daughter-in-law’s brother, Ber Portnoy (b. 1923, Daugavpils).
