Guzovsky Iosif Grigoryevich
(1936–1991) — electrical engineer, communications specialist.
Iosif Guzovsky was born in Minsk, Belarus. During the Second World War (1941–1945), he lived in evacuation. After returning to Minsk, he completed secondary school at the age of 17 and enrolled at the Leningrad Institute of Railway Engineers. In 1957, due to family circumstances, he transferred to the Latvian State University, where he studied “Electrical Stations, Networks, and Systems.”
In 1958, his faculty was transferred to the Riga Polytechnic Institute (RPI), from which he graduated in 1960 with a degree in electrical engineering.
Following graduation, he worked for two years at the design institute Giprostroymaterialy. From 1962, he was employed at the Kommutator association, where he spent 30 years. Thanks to his outstanding abilities, Guzovsky rose from design engineer to chief engineer of the Kommutator enterprise.
Under his leadership, and often through his own designs, highly effective specialised communication systems were developed. He received numerous awards and commendations, including the Order of the Red Banner of Labour.
He died in 1991 and was buried at the Shmerli Cemetery in Riga.
