Grinman (Grinmann) Leib Mordukhovich (20 August 1916, Riga) — metalworker.

Leib Grinman was the son of Mordukhai Grinman (1869, Krustpils – 1934, Riga), a shoemaker, and Sheina Grinman (1871, Jaunjelgava – 1941, Riga).

He completed six years of primary school. From 1930 to 1934, he worked as a metalworker at Meyer’s mechanical workshop in Riga. Between 1934 and 1937, he worked at the “Latvelo” bicycle factory. From 1938 to 1939, he served in the Latvian Army. In 1939–1941, he was employed as a metalworker at the Berkovich hat factory.

In 1941, he was evacuated to Samarkand Oblast in the Uzbek SSR. In 1942, he was conscripted into the Labour Front and sent to Altai Krai. From 1942 to 1947, he worked at the Altai Tractor Plant as a metalworker. Between 1947 and 1949, he was employed at the “Rekord” textile factory in Riga, and from 1949 onwards, he worked at the “Makslā” industrial complex in the same capacity.

In his marriage to Pesya Grinman (b. 1918, Braslav Oblast), he had two sons: Sholom Grinman (b. 1945, Rubtsovsk) and Ber Grinman (b. 1948, Riga).

Grinman’s mother and his sister Khava Butkina (née Grinman) (1907, Jaunjelgava – 1941) perished in the Holocaust. His sister Khiena Grinman (1911, Riga – 1943, Rubtsovsk) died in evacuation. His brother Abram Grinman (1903, Jaunjelgava – 1943) was killed in action during the Second World War.

In 1956, Leib Grinman submitted his first application for emigration from Latvia, which was granted only in 1971.
