In 1941, she was evacuated to Shafrikana District in the Uzbek SSR, where she worked on the Yusupov kolkhoz until 1943. From 1943 to 1944, she served as a ward matron at the district hospital in Shafrikana. From 1945 to 1946, she was a worker at the interdistrict office of “Uzmasloprom.”

Her sister Fanya Khayut (née Sher) (b. c.1905, Rēzekne) emigrated from Latvia in 1936 and was living in Israel by the 1960s.

During the Holocaust, her mother Fruma Sher (c.1880 – 1942) was murdered in Viļāni. Also shot in Viļāni in 1942 were her siblings Bluma Sher (b. 1920), Taube Sher (later Vāpne) (b. 1908), and Yaakov Sher (b. 1922). Her brother Isai Sher (b. 1910) died on the front near Pskov around 1942.

Her siblings Sofia Sher (b. 1919, Daugavpils) and Tevel Sher (b. 1906, Viļāni) were still living in Latvia in the 1960s, although Tevel later emigrated.
