Furman (Fuhrmann) Ilya (Ilja) Solomonovich (15 April 1911, Jēkabpils) — brigade leader and production worker.

Ilya Furman was the son of Solomon-Abram Furman (1875, Jēkabpils — 1941(?), Riga) and Leia Furman (née Feltgun) (1877, Jēkabpils — 1938, Riga). From 1916 to 1919 he was evacuated with his parents to Nizhny Novgorod (then Gorky). From 1920 he lived in Riga.

Between 1929 and 1941 he worked as a hairdresser in salons in Riga. Since 1933 he had been permanently classified as a second-category invalid after the amputation of a leg because of gangrene.

In 1941 he was evacuated to Gorky region, where until 1945 he worked at the collective farm “Krasnaya Niva.” In 1946 he returned to Riga from evacuation. From 1946 to 1955 he worked as a warehouse manager, brigade leader, and dyer in the artels “Zvaigzne,” “Bytremont,” and “Raduga.” From 1955 to 1971 he was head of the household dyeing workshop, senior foreman, and receiving clerk at the “Zvaigzne” factory. From 1971 he worked as a kiosk operator and senior salesperson at the “Soyuzpechat” agency.

In marriage to Sheina-Eida Furman (née Sledzevich; previously Daneman) (1910, Riga), he had a daughter, Lia Feit (née Furman) (1946, Riga).

His father and brothers — Moishe Furman (1902, Jēkabpils — 1941(?), Riga), Nakhman-Rafael Furman (1905, Jēkabpils — 1941(?), Riga), and Abe Furman (1907, Jēkabpils — 1941(?), Riga) — perished in the Holocaust. His brother Tsvi (Girsh) Furman (1913, Jēkabpils) emigrated to Israel (then Palestine) in 1934.

From 1961 onward Ilya Furman repeatedly petitioned for permission to emigrate to Israel. He finally received permission to leave in 1974.
