In 1968 she trained as a hairdresser at a household services combine. Her marriage to Boris Moiseevich Kurte (born 1945, Riga) produced no children and ended in divorce in 1967.

In marriage to Vladimir Semenovich Furems (born 1944, Moscow) she had two daughters: Giula Vladimirovna Furems (born 1969, Riga) and Yana Vladimirovna Furems (born 1975, Riga).

In 1987 Ludmila Furems received permission to travel to West Berlin, Federal Republic of Germany, to visit acquaintances — Mikhail Kharitonovich Albrot (born 1925, Minsk) and Inessa Ilyinichna Albrot (née Pevzner) (born 1933, Minsk), who had emigrated to Israel in 1973 and later moved to West Berlin.
