Jaunjelgava / Friedrichstadt / Neiru

Born in approximately 5565 (1805) in Pasvalys (Pasval), Lithuania. He studied under the city's rabbi.

In 5590 (1830) he was accepted here as rabbi and served for 46 years.

He also served as official government rabbi.

He passed away on 18 Iyyar, Lag BaOmer, 5636 (12 May 1876).

In the responsa Zikaron Yaakov of R. Yaakov Bendtman of Bauska, several responsa to him on the matter of names in bills of divorce were printed (sections 25, 35, 46).
