From 1945 to 1947 Liliya Freidina studied at a correspondence pharmaceutical school in Kyiv, where she qualified as an assistant pharmacist. During the Second World War, from November 1942 to August 1944, she participated in the partisan movement in Belarus as a rank-and-file member of the Zheleznyak Brigade in the Gomel region. In 1944, after the partisan units joined the Red Army, the detachments were disbanded.
