Frank (née Kovnat) Elizaveta (Elisaweta) Lvovna (born 18 August 1928, Riga) - biologist and botanist. During the Second World War, from 1941 to 1944, Elizaveta Frank was in evacuation, first in the village of Razdor in the Kamyzyak district of the Astrakhan region and later in Ivanovo. After graduating from the Faculty of Biology of the Latvian State University in 1952, she worked as a standards engineer at the Riga Pharmaceutical Plant. In 1953 she was employed as a laboratory assistant at the resort polyclinic in Ķemeri, and from 1953 to 1961 served as senior laboratory assistant at the departments of hygiene and later biochemistry of the Riga Medical Institute.

From 1961 to 1963 she was an assistant at the Department of Biology of the Riga Medical Institute. In 1963–1964 she worked as a junior researcher in the laboratory of parenteral nutrition, and from 1964 to 1973 as a junior researcher in the Department of Biochemistry and Parenteral Nutrition of the Central Scientific Research Laboratory of the Riga Medical Institute. In 1969 she received the degree of Candidate of Biological Sciences.

In 1952–1953 she was married to Vladimir Yakovlevich Edelstein (born 1927, Orel). From 1959 to 1971 she was married to Herz Frank (born 1926, Ludza), a documentary film director. Their daughter is Elena Gertselevna Frank (born 1960, Riga).

Her father, Lev Abramovich Kovnat (1897, Kraslava — 1941, Riga), was a chemical engineer who perished in the Holocaust. Her mother, Roza Davidovna Kovnat (1904, Grodno — date unknown), survived. Her maternal uncle, Alexander Davidovich Russota (1910, Grodno — date unknown), emigrated to Israel.
