In 1919, moved to Riga with his parents. In 1924–33 — studied at the Riga Gymnasium “Tushiya.” In 1933–34 — 2nd class sailor on a sailing vessel in Genoa (Italy). In 1934–37 — 1st class sailor on the sailing vessel “Theodor Herzel” in Riga. In 1937–38 — sailor on the steamship “Adria” in Panama. In 1941, was interned in Germany from the steamship “Kangars” of the Latvian Shipping Company. Until April 1945, was a prisoner in camps. After liberation, returned to Latvia. In 1945–51 — member of the sailing crew of the Latvian Shipping Company. In 1949, graduated from the Riga Maritime School. In 1951–54 — dispatcher at the Small Rivers Administration. In the Holocaust, E.'s father and sister — Eidelman Nekhama (1918 — 1941, Riga) — perished. His marriage to Eidelman (Rotbart) Feyga (1918, Jēkabpils) (dissolved in 1974) produced a daughter Perlova (Eidelman) Lyubov (1947, Riga). From 1972, E. repeatedly petitioned to emigrate to Israel but was refused on security grounds: while working as a captain at the Latvian Maritime Shipping Company, he had had access to classified documents. In 1978, E. received permission to leave Latvia.
