Born on 4 Menachem Av 5672 (18 July 1912) in Viļaka, to his father who was the city's rabbi and rabbi of Ludza (Lucin). He received Torah from his father and studied at yeshivas in Riga, Slobodka, and Dvinsk.
On 29 Tevet 56941) (16 January 1934) he was accepted here as rabbi.
