Burin Ber Samuilovich (b. 20 December 1917, Yaroslavl) — hat maker.

In the 1920s, Ber Burin moved with his parents—emigrants to Russia during the First World War—to Latvia. In 1933, he completed six grades of elementary school in Līvāni. That same year, he relocated to Riga, where until 1939 he worked as a hat maker in private workshops.

From 1939 to 1940, he served in the Latvian Army, and in 1940 he was transferred to the Soviet Army, assigned to the 640th Artillery Regiment stationed in Daugavpils.

In 1941, Burin was imprisoned in the Riga Ghetto, and later transferred to the Mežaparks concentration camp. In August 1944, he managed to escape the camp. Until October 1944, he hid with the Ozoliņš family, who sheltered him at 11 Kišezera Street in Riga.

From 1944 onward, he worked as a hat maker at the “Liga” production association.

In his marriage to Emima Burina (née Volozh, formerly Rubin and Zvein) (b. 1912, Riga), he had a son: Samuil Burin (b. 1946, Riga).

He also adopted his wife’s child: Dolya Burina (née Zveina) (b. 1941, Nolinsk, Kirov Oblast).

During the Holocaust, Burin lost his entire family: his parents Samuil Burin (b. 1878, Līvāni – d. 1941, Līvāni) and Revekа Burina (b. 1878, Līvāni – d. 1941, Līvāni); his siblings Mikhla Rakhman (née Burina) (b. 1903, Līvāni – d. 1941, Līvāni), Bentsion Burin (b. 1905, Līvāni – d. 1941, Riga), Idel Burin (b. 1908, Līvāni – d. 1944, Auschwitz), Iosif Burin (b. 1910, Līvāni – d. 1941, Līvāni), Yakov Burin (b. 1912, Līvāni – d. 1941, Riga), and Khaya Ioselovich (née Burina) (b. 1914, Līvāni – d. 1941, Riga).

In 1973, Ber Burin received permission to emigrate to Israel upon the invitation of his adopted son Dolya.
