R. Shmuel son of R. Yitzchak Aizik

Krāslava / Kreislavke

In his approbation for Derekh HaMelekh (Shklov 5558):1) “I signed today, Monday, 27 of Menachem Av, year 5540, here in the holy congregation of Kraslava — Shmuel, son of the late our master Yitzchak Aizik, of blessed and holy memory, residing in the holy congregation of Kraslava.”

Latvia and Rabbis

1)
In Megilat Yochasin, letter 27, it is written about R. Naftali Zioni, rabbi of Lucin: “He received his ordination in his youth … and from the great rabbis who were in his youth in the holy congregation of Krāslava: the rabbi R. Neta and the rabbi R. Shmuel, since his father-in-law R. Eliezer was from Krāslava” (also copied in Toldot Yeshivat HaYehudim BeCourland, p. 69, note 5, but omitted from Di Geshikhte fun di Yidn in Letland). There in Yachas Avot (on the Megilat Yochasin), letter 65, he writes: “I do not know who these rabbis were” — and perhaps this R. Shmuel is the one referred to.
