The A. Reisen Club
The A. Reisen Club (Avrom Reisen Club, Reisen Club) was a left-wing workers' organisation in Daugavpils, which brought together around 300 people. It was named after the Jewish writer and poet Avrom Reisen (1856–1953), who described the difficult life of the poor in his works. His poems were popular among workers as revolutionary songs.
The club's work was characterised by anti-Zionist fervour. Professor M.U. Shatz-Anin, the most qualified opponent of the Zionist movement in Latvia in 1918–1940, spoke here. The Zionists saw the club as a serious opponent.
