Bezmozgis Immanuel (Mendel) (1935-2006)

Bezmozgis Immanuel (Mendel) (25.10.1935-04.04.2006, Daugavpils-Toronto) - sportsman, trainer. In 1941 he was evacuated behind Soviet lines. In 1957 he graduated from the Latvian Institute of Physical Education, specialising in weightlifting. He worked as a sports instructor for weightlifting and bodybuilding in the “Dinamo” Sports Club (Riga). Amongst his pupils are world weightlifting champion Gennady Ivanchenko and hockey player Viktor Tikhonov. In 1970 he was certified as a world-class umpire. He umpired international competitions in the USSR and GDR. In 1979 he emigrated to Canada and settled in Toronto, where he worked as a masseur and trainer.
