Note on the discrepancy between father's and mother's surnames:

In 1942, during the fighting near Stalingrad, Zusya Khaimovich Khabensky was offered to change his surname, first name, patronymic and nationality in case he fell into Nazi captivity. A military ticket was issued, which read: ‘Khabinsky Zakhar Efimovich, Ukrainian’. At the conclusion of marriage with Feiga Khaimovna Toker she received the surname Khabinskaya. The eldest children - Raisa and Solomon - respectively, received the patronymic Zakharovna and Zakharovich, and the surname - Khabinsky and Khabinskaya. In 1952 passports were replaced. And on the basis of the birth certificate was issued a document - Khabensky Zus Khaimovich. Accordingly, the youngest daughter born in 1953 became Khabensky Leah Zusievna.
