Zilberberg (Silberberg) Abram Markovich
(b. 12 September 1922, Podvolochisk, Ternopil Region) — accountant.
Abram Zilberberg was the son of Mark Zilberberg (1882, Ternopil Region – 1943, Ternopil) and Rebeka Zilberberg (née Geller, 1882, Ternopil Region – 1940, Ternopil).
In 1928, he graduated from Ternopil Polish Gymnasium and until 1930 earned a living by giving private lessons. In 1930, he entered the Faculty of Architecture at Brno University (Czechia), where he lived until 1933. From 1933 to 1939 he worked as a draftsman at an enamelware factory in Bielsko (Poland).
In 1940, he returned to Ternopil and became a senior accountant in the regional office of the State Savings Bank. In 1941, he was drafted into the Red Army and trained as a military medical instructor. That same year, he served as a medical orderly in the 836th Reserve Rifle Regiment, and from 1941–1946 worked as a clerk and senior accountant in the finance department of the 537th marching column.
After his demobilization in 1946, he moved to Riga. There he worked as:
Senior accountant at the Baltic Oil Industry Trust (1946–1952)
Auditor in the invalids’ artel (1952–1953)
Senior accountant in technical supervision at the Hotel “Riga” (1953–1962)
Dispatcher, administrator, and head of the supply department at the Riga Film Studio (1963–1967)
Accountant at the Inter-Republican Amateur Film Studio (1967–1971)
From 1971, he was retired.
Abram Zilberberg was decorated with the medals “For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–45,” “For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War,” and “25 Years of Victory over Germany.”
During the Holocaust, his father, sisters (Zissel Zilberberg, 1914–1943; Fanya Zilberberg, 1920–1941), and his first wife (Tsilya Zilberberg, née Shuman, 1911–1941) were killed in Ternopil.
In his second marriage to Mikhla Zilberberg (née Rotbart, b. 1919, Jēkabpils), their son Ilya-Mark Zilberberg (b. 1947, Riga) was born.
In 1972, Abram Zilberberg received permission to emigrate to Israel, sponsored by his wife’s brother Yitzhak Rotbart (b. 1910, Jēkabpils). He later settled in Hod HaSharon and worked as an accountant.
