Zernitsky Lev Markovich (b. 23 July 1905, Rogachev, Belarus) — worker.

Lev Zernitsky was the son of Mordukh Zernitsky (1879, Rechitsa – 1941), a cheder teacher, and Liya Zernitskaya (1880, Rogachev – 1941).

In 1927–29 he served as a private in the 34th Rostov Cavalry Regiment. In 1930 he worked as a labourer at the Egorov Factory in Leningrad. That same year he entered the Leningrad Institute of Railway Engineers, completing three years of study.

In 1934–35 he worked as supply manager at the “Fifth Anniversary of the October Revolution” Hospital in Leningrad. From 1936 to 1941 he was a controller at the river port in Tomsk.

During the Second World War (1941–45) he served on the front and was awarded the medal “For the Defence of Moscow.”

After demobilisation he settled in Riga.

1945–46 — seasonal worker at the Riga freight station.

1946–48 — fireman at the Riga Wool Factory “Activist.”

1948–49 — artist in the haberdashery workshop of the “Uznemība” artel.

1949–50 — master of fabric painting at the “Stakhanovets” artel.

1950–51 — foreman of the decorative workshop at the “Fantaziya” artel.

1952 — foreman of the tailoring workshop at the “Dynamo” industrial combine, Riga.

1952–53 — head of a mixed workshop at the “Dzirkstele” artel.

1953–55 — workshop head at the “Rigas Drebnieks” artel.

1955 — worker at the “Stakhanovets” artel.

1956–63 — worker and later master at the “Dzirkstele” artel.

1963 — worker at the VEF plant; also telephone-electrician at the Riga Tool Factory.

1963–66 — yarn transporter at “Rigas Tekstils.”

1966–68 — transport worker at the “Straume” plant.

1968–69 — loader at the Special Artistic Design and Technological Bureau.

From 1969 — quality controller of forge-and-press works at the Riga Electromechanical Plant.

In 1945 he married Fruma Mikhailovna Zernitskaya (née Naishul, formerly Zakher) (b. 1911, Rezekne). Their daughter Liya Zernitskaya was born in 1946 in Riga.

His brother Mikhail Zernitsky (1907, Rogachev – 1968, Leningrad) is buried in Leningrad. His brother Zalman Zernitsky (b. 1909, Rogachev – d. …) was killed on the front during the Second World War.

In 1971 Lev Zernitsky received permission to emigrate to Israel at the invitation of his cousin Zalman Yankelovich (b. 1909).
